Relaxation Meditation
In this last month I have attended a webinar with David Hamilton PhD. I am a big fan of David’s books and over the last 6 years I have attended quite a few of his seminars. One of the first one’s I attended was based around his book “Your Mind Can Heal Your Body” and he explained how your mind doesn’t know the difference between fake and real. So, if you are feeling worried about something happening next week, the brain will think it is happening now and will assume there is threat it needs to protect you from, and will act accordingly. It is often why the central nervous system is often locked into a sympathetic state which impacts your heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and digestive system.
Of course, we can flip this in reverse and bring positivity into the body – if you fake a smile and hold it for long enough the body will produce happiness chemicals which will act on a feedback loop, making the fake smile a real smile (I bet you are trying this now!).
Based on this, I have written a relaxation meditation where you can either pretend that you can use the breath to bring relaxation to various parts of the body or you can say the word “relax”. Just clink on the picture below. I hope you enjoy
