Meaningful Life
I am now celebrating 20 years of running a business in the health and wellness sector. Reading this Chinese Proverb gave me an opportunity to reflect on how much joy it has given me to support others with their health and well-being. When I had recovered from M.E., in the early 2000s, I felt a desire to share everything I had learned to help others going through a tough time – I wanted to turn a negative experience into something more positive, and to give something back to the world.
I had no idea giving back would turn into something meaningful which would give me an everyday purpose.
Frank Taylor PhD, in an article for Ideas.Ted.Com, says ‘Your life becomes meaningful to you when you’re meaningful to other people: by helping a friend, by sharing a special moment with someone you love, or by connecting with a well-intentioned philosopher through buying him a much-needed beer.’ Of course, you might not know Frank, so you may wish to share a beer (or coffee) with me instead.
He then goes on to say, ‘Then, when we sense that our lives are meaningful to other people, we’re able to see the value in our own lives.’
The Mental Health Foundation have written an interesting article about kindness and mental health which demonstrates how helping others can: benefit our well-being and happiness; helping us to live longer; reducing stress; creating a sense of belonging and reducing isolation; keeping things in perspective, etc., to name just a few of the many benefits.
This is why I love to train and support those who want to go out and help others.
As a thank you to you for supporting my business, I have recorded a ‘Thank You’ mantra meditation. Please click on the video below.
