Acceptance
“What would it be like if I could accept life – accept this moment – exactly as it is?” ~ Tara Brach
Do I have to like the moment?
To accept doesn’t mean you have to like the moment you are in and it doesn’t mean the moment has to be perfect.
Resisting the moment…
In acceptance you can stop the fighting and resisting of what is happening in the here and now. The fighting and resistance comes from an idea of how you think the moment should be. When that idea does not happen you might feel out of control, disappointed or frustrated with the alternative moment being presented to you.
It’s about choices…….
In acceptance there is an opportunity to preserve your energy and see the choices you might not have realised were available to you before, and so acceptance is not a passive place to be in.
It’s about meditation……
Acceptance often comes as the by-product of a meditation practice. In meditation you learn to view every unfolding moment “as is”, despite what the moment is, in a compassionate way.
